In 2018 I worked as a junior reporter at the T&A newspaper in Bradford following completion of a masters degree in multimedia journalism from the University of Kent. I wrote one of the most popular articles for this paper, which you can read here.
Gal-dem was founded to represent black and other ethnic minority voices. Before starting university in 2017, I was thrilled to have been published by such an inclusive organisation. Sadly gal-dem closed in 2023 due to hardships. It's a real shame, because ethnic minority representation within British media is still too few and far between! Read one of my articles here
The Asian Standard is a wonderful newspaper edited by the amazing Fatima Patel, who I had the fortune to meet over video call. Fatima gave me a chance to write a few articles for her after leaving the T&A due to health issues. In 2020, I wrote about global subjects such as China's QR code tracking system, and also covered local stories such as community clubs.
As well as working one day at British Muslim TV based in Huddersfield, I temped at the University of Kent's own TV channel KMTV. I experienced every role, from teleprompt controller to vision mixer technician.
the f word is a handy feminist publication which gave me a shot at writing about what it's like to be brown-skinned and a feminist. View my article on freedom here.
I left the journalism/media industry after realising it was a poor fit for me. I exited after much deliberation and with some regret, but I now work within the telecommunications industry in a job I enjoy. I continue to write on the side.
